In other news we are spending the week in Shenzhen in China, visiting Seeedstudio and helping out with the testing of initial production samples. So far everything is on track and today we got to fly the first mass produced Crazyflie 2.0! Here’s a picture of it before we broke it loose and got it into the air. Next week we will post lots of updates and photos from our trip. Until then, don’t forget to vote :-)

  • i am shure you thought about that before, but i would like some information about it: why do you waste such a lot of pcb? You could print them turned and moved closer together. I do not know anything about massproduction/production of pcbs, so sorry if I am completly wrong.

  • Really hope “flykit” doesn’t win considering the expansion port has nothing to do with flying. “fliekit” is more appropriate here.

@TheGermanGuy…this is an example of some of the pros and cons of additive and subtractive manufacturing. Considering the average board is square, there inevitably will be some wasted material because of the Crazyflie’s four wing arms.

    • Exactly, “FlieDeck” sounds cool and like a flight deck. I was also thinking about “CrazyLoad” as from payload..

  • There are some other interesting name in the “Suggest a name for our expansion …” which does not appear in the list eligible for voting…

  • I don’t think flykit is a great choice, and I’m going to be cynical and say whoever originally suggested flykit has got people they know to vote on it so they can get a free crazyflie 2 dev kit!

  • I suggested the name “Fliekit” (and “Fliekid”, “Crazymaggot”, “Parasense” with didnt make it to the poll) without knowing somebody suggested “Flykit” and i have to agree with @mzilla, “FLYkit” doesnt seem very appropiated considering the copter is named “CrazyFLIE” and the Addon-Boards themself dont have any influence on the flying performance of the copter.

Additionally it is, like @cordura mentioned, simple to manipulate the results since there is no registration needed to vote. Therefore it is easy to ask for votes at facebook or vote multiple times with different pcs/proxy/…

On the other hand names with the pre- or suffix “flie” are clearly not liked, but is this enough to explain the significant gap between “Fliekit” and “Flykit”?

I dont want to make any advertisement for my name suggestion, i would rather want “Bitboard” to win, i just had to write down the thoughts i had.

  • I feel like there is some ambiguity in the English translation of fly and flie. I guess you could argue it works if it is a noun but as a verb it is odd here. Flying implies the kit is not for moding or expanding, but something directly related to the implied abilities of the Crazyflie. Flykit just does not capture the creative potential of this feature. At least “flie” is more related to the brand. I also question how wierd it sounds to stack “fly kits”.

  • Moreover, consider how odd it sounds to promote the creative potential of this feature by saying add a Flykit to your already flying device. I’m glad the Crazyflie team still reserves the right to call it what they want. I motion for a recount of the captcha ballots lol!

  • @Bry, I agree that this voting system is not fraud proof and inflating the votes of your own naming suggestion is way too easy.

Doing a quick search on google for “Free proxies” returns tons of free to use proxies, that I have just used to inflate votes from the same computer.

Let’s see if I can make “Deck” win, I have already bumped it to 3rd place, took me 2 minutes.

  • Also, I have just stumbled across a few proxy websites, which have already been used to vote on this poll. This means people ARE doing this to bump up specific selections.

Nonetheless, I will continue on my quest to make “Deck” win; I hope from this you can see how easy it is to con your way to free hardware, and hopefully you will re-consider this vote and tighten up the voting process.

  • So, it’s done. I coded up a little bot that will crawl google for free proxy servers and then iterates through the list to try to cast a vote. The bot managed to bump “Deck” to 1st place in under 2 hours, and I throttled it too! There are also still thousands of free servers out there..

  • Considering the poll was possibly “tampered with” (according to the parenthetical note in the title), I think Bitcraze should leave the final decision to themselves and just take the “vote” as a consideration of what the community is most interested in (best guess, fwiw). After all, it is Bitcraze selling the CrazyFlie and the expansion mods are theirs to name. I trust they’ll pick a good name and I’ll enjoy the CrazyFlie still regardless what the expansion boards are named. Seriously though, it’s a shame if someone had the time and desire to “game” a poll like this (some people have to win at all costs don’t they?)! The poll was conducted in good spirits and it’s quite annoying that the potential of “winning” a CF kit might have pushed someone to manipulate it. Oh well – the nature of some people I guess.
